Overview

The Faculty of Chemical and Materials Engineering at Shahrood University of Technology (SUT), established in 2015, offers courses with laboratory training leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Science (BSc), and Master of Science (MSc). The courses are designed with consideration of the modern concepts of chemical and materials engineering education and new requirements of the industry. The faculty offers a broad range of diverse high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate programs focusing on natural gas processing and oil engineering, ceramic materials and composite engineering.

The rapid growth of the chemical and materials and related industries since the beginning of the last century and strong competition in these industries have resulted in the establishment of new standards and requirements for the chemical and materials engineering profession.

The program is designed to give students not only the fundamentals of modern chemical and materials engineering but also instruction in a variety of subjects, both technical and non-technical, so as to develop a broader view leading to a more intelligent approach to industrial and organizational problems. Along with the academic training, the students are required to participate in Summer Training Program.

Mission

The mission of the Faculty of Chemical and Materials Engineering is to educate students to acquire up-to-date knowledge and skills, in order to fulfill the needs and expectations of industry and society and to play a leadership role in their advancement. The Faculty of Chemical and Materials Engineering develops educational programs in accordance with the contemporary requirements, advances chemical and materials technologies through research and contributes to the application of knowledge and technology for the benefit of society.

Undergraduate Program Objectives

Graduates of the undergraduate program of the Shahrood University of Technology, Faculty of Chemical and Materials Engineering will:

  • have successful careers in chemical and materials engineering practice and research in industry, government agencies, business and/or universities
  • demonstrate leadership qualities within their chosen career path
  • successfully earn advanced degrees or certificates where appropriate to pursue their chosen careers

Student Outcomes

  • an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, materials, and engineering
  • an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data

Currently, there are 13 academic members serving the education and research responsibilities. The group hosts over 44 postgraduate researchers to efficiently extend and support the associated research activities, as well. Right now, 9 educational laboratories and 1 research labs support the educational and research programs.

Industrial Collaboration

The Faculty of Chemical and Materials Engineering has joint industrial based collaboration programs with certain major national industries since 2008. Making engineering knowledge accessible to the industry has been considered as a part of our mission. This job is being fulfilled by means of training skillful and knowledgeable chemical and materials engineers as well as various industrial collaborations to support the needs of companies for high-tech solutions and systems. The industrial partners participate in practical education by making it possible for the students to acquire practical experience at the site through internship opportunities and graduate projects. In recent years, the group has been tied with several major industries through collaboration agreements including: Niroo research institute (NRI), Ministry of Defence, Khejeh-Nasir research institute, Food and Drug Administration.
